Politically Homeless

Posted on January 30th, 2008 in Politics by Jorge Luis

What a depressing evening. With McCain’s Florida primary victory last night, the Republican nomination is now his to lose. In November, conservatives won’t have a horse in the race. What’s the point of voting?

With the Republican party now going liberal, it creates a conservative vacuum, which a third party could fill. Henry Gomez over at Babalublog.com doesn’t see this as a viable option.

A third party is not an option. There aren’t enough conservatives to ever win a general election. Plus it would create a mess in congress. No, what we need to do is take our medicine, a strong dose of Hillary Clinton and socialism for 4 years so that the party can once again galvinize [sic] around conservatism.

That’s beginning to seem like the the sad and sobering reality. What’s the point of sending a run-of-the-mill liberal (McCain) to Washington? Let ‘em have a liberal fascist (Hillary/Obama). Seems like the country needs a tangible reminder of socialism’s failures (Carter era) before it rejects it again.

Come August, the Republican party will be led by a liberal, leaving conservatives politically homeless. And so I’m changing my party affiliation to none. I am Republican no more.

Podcasting for Libertad

On Monday, I had the honor, along with Claudia Fanelli, to interview Ana Margarita Martinez. Ana Margarita’s story is one of love, heart-wrenching betrayal, and overcoming the odds. She had the misfortune of marrying a man who turned out to be a Cuban spy, who’s sole reason for marrying was to to create a cover for himself, allowing him to infiltrate exile groups like Hermanos al Rescate (Brothers to the Rescue). He disappeared on the eve of that day that shall forever live in infamy when two Brother-to-the-Rescue civilian planes were shot down by Cuban MIGs, only to reappear the next Monday on Cuban television revealing to have been spying in Miami all along. One can only imagine the personal devastation Ana Margarita had to endure. Yet she rose from those ashes to deal the totalitarian regime a defeat when she successfully sued them for rape. Ana Margarita is one of the few victims that has been able to exact justice from the regime. You can hear her tell her story in her own words, much better than I ever could retell it.

Thank you, Claudia, for giving me the opportunity to co-host. It was an honor all around.
